VOUVRY FORMER ELECTRICITY PLANT Playmobil Activity, 12/09/202205/08/2023 The Vouvry thermal power plant was an electricity production facility located in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. It operated on coal and had a production capacity of around 1,000 megawatts. The plant was commissioned in 1968 and ceased operations in 1999 due to increasing pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Since the closure of the plant in 1999, several restart projects have been proposed, but none have been approved. Swiss authorities have taken measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage the production of cleaner and more environmentally friendly energy. The reuse of the Vouvry thermal power plant was not considered viable in this context. Today, the Vouvry thermal power plant is closed and undergoing dismantling. This process will remove the existing installations and rehabilitate the site for future use. Swiss authorities continue to promote cleaner energy sources, including renewable energy such as solar and wind power, to reduce their impact on the environment.
